This is a list of best 46″ LCD TV models available on the market. These are LCD HDTVs that offer best quality. As with anything, the price is usually an indicator of how good the TV is. Remember however, that you still need to do your homework in order to choose the features that are useful/important for you and dump the ones that just cost you more.
Things worth mentioning:
- In the 46 inch size class, there are very few 720p LCD TV models. None of them offers good enough quality to be present in this list of best LCD HDTVs.
- Both Sony and Samsung have LED backlit LCD TV models in this size class. The picture quality offered by these models is superior, mainly because of the exceptional black levels they can produce.

Sony KDL-46XBR8
If I would give awards to each LCD TV, Sony KDL-46XBR8 would get the “innovation award” one. Though Samsung LN46A950 also has LED backlight, the KDL-46XBR8 has triluminous LED backlight. That translates into some really deep black levels and exceptional picture quality. Of course, as any high-end LCD TV, KDL-46XBR8 comes with 1080p Full-HD resolution and 120Hz refresh rate, as well. Make sure you’re seated when looking at the price, though.

Samsung LN46A950
Samsung LN46A950 comes with 1080p resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. Many other LCD TVs have that. LN46A950 however, has something extra - LED backlight. Because of that, the black levels of this LCD TV are nothing short of spectacular. As you might assume, those deep black levels help it achieve a really impressive picture quality overall. It is expensive, but if you want top quality this is one LCD TV you must check out.

Samsung LN46A750
Samsung LN46A750 doesn’t have LED backlight, but it has all the exotic features you can imagine. It has the 1080p resolution and 120Hz refresh rate specific to any high-end model and it is able to produce a really great picture. However, if you don’t find those extra features usefull, LN46A650 has the same picture quality and is a bit cheaper.

Samsung LN46A650
With 1080p resolution, 120Hz refresh rate and a really great picture quality, LN46A650 is one of the best LCD TV models without LED backlight. The black levels don’t match those of LN46A950 or Sony KDL-46XBR8, but still are impressive. Colors are also great and though it lacks some exotic features present in LN46A750, it will give you more options than LN46A550. Price wise, it offers a great value.

Sony KDL-46XBR6
Sony KDL-46XBR6 is the direct competitor of Samsung LN46A650. You can expect it to have similar performances. It has the usual 1080p resolution and 120Hz refresh rate, and as it is the case with its competitor, the picture quality is great. This model is a bit expensive, LN46A650 being cheaper.

Samsung LN46A550
Samsung LN46A550 is one of the best LCD TV deals. It offers a picture quality comparable to that of LN46A650 but it costs less. The reason for being a bit cheaper is that it lacks some of the features present in the newer Samsung series. If you can live without those features, you will get great picture quality for less money.

Sony KDL-46Z4100
Comes with 120Hz refresh rate and very good picture quality. However it is not nearly as impressive as Sony KDL-46XBR8 or Samsung LN46A950. It doesn’t even match Samsung’s LN46A550 in terms of picture quality. Though, it’s black levels are not as deep as the ones found in the models I just mentioned, it still offers a pretty good picture quality.

LG 47LG60 (47 inch)
Good anti-glare coating and generally good black levels and colors. Not a match for Samsung models or the XBR6 and XBR8 series from Sony. It has good picture quality though and comes with a lot of features. Comes with 120Hz refresh rate.

Sony KDL-46W4100
One of the cheapest LCD TVs that have 120Hz refresh rate. A mile behind the more expensive models when it comes to picture quality. Even worse, the picture quality suffers some serious degradation when viewed from a wide angle. Even so, Sony KDL-46W4100 still manages to outperform many other LCD TVs out there.

Vizio VO47L (47 inch)
Not a match for those top of the line models from Sony and Samsung. For a somewhat cheaper LCD TV it offers very good picture quality, though. It has some screen uniformity issues but the black levels and color accuracy is good. It doesn’t have 120Hz refresh rate.
