Sony KDL-55XBR8 has an outstanding picture quality. Though for a long time, LCD TVs have been inferior to plasma TVs when it came down to black levels, thanks to the triluminous LED backlighting, KDL-55XBR8 is able to produce black levels as deep as those seen in the best plasma TVs. The colors are also superb and generally speaking, KDL-55XBR8 is a trully outstanding performer. The price is … ummmm … out of this world. Samsung LN55A950
Samsung LN55A950 also comes with LED backlight. It has white LEDs as opposed to KDL-55XBR8 which has triluminous LEDs (red, green and blue). Though it costs a lot less than KDL-55XBR8, this Samsung model from series 9 is nothing short of spectacular either. The black levels are fantastic and the colors are accurate. When taking into consideration its price, LN55A950 is a much better deal than KDL-55XBR8. It is not exactly an equal of KDL-55XBR8 but the difference between them is not big either. It measures 55 inch.

Sony KDL-52XBR6
Sony KDL-52XBR6 is a great performer. It doesn’t have LED backlight, but on the other hand it is cheaper by an order of magnitude compared to it’s brother from XBR8 series. Its picture is superb - deep black levels and accurate colors allow it to provide a super picture. It measures 52 inch.

Samsung LN52A750
Samsung LN52A750 is packed with features. It can’t make coffe for you in the morning, but it pretty much has everything else covered. It’s picture quality is superb, rivaling Sony KDL-52XBR6. Still in the picture quality department, It doesn’t realy bring an improvement over its cheaper brothers LN52A650 and LN52A550. The extra features though, increase its price when compared to the just mentioned Samsung models.

Samsung LN52A650
Offering a nice balance between features and picture on one side and price on the other side, Samsung LN52A650 is another extraordinary LCD TV. It’s picture quality, of the same caliber as Sony’s KDL-52XBR6, Samsung LN52A750 and LN52A550, is superb. Black levels are great as well as the color accuracy. It has no fancy features as LN52A750 does but it also costs a bit less.

Samsung LN52A550 is one of the best deals out there. It lacks a lot of the features present in it’s newer brothers or Sony’s KDL-52XBR6 but, no compromise was made on the picture quality. That means you get fantastic picture at a really nice price. The black levels are great and the colors are accurate.

Not as great as the above models in terms of picture quality, LG 52LG60 is well above most LCD TVs. It offers very good black levels and accurate colors. Has plenty of features and connectivity options. It is priced similarly to Samsung LN52A650.

Sony KDL-52V4100
Priced similarly to Samsung LN52A550, this model from sony, though not exactly an equal when it comes to picture quality, manages to compensate in other areas. Though it can’t beat LN52A550 black levels it has very good colors and overall it comes close.
If you want a HDTV larger than 55 inch we recommend you to go for a plasma TV. Though LCD TVs larger than 55 inch exist, we consider that a plasma TV (60 - 65 inch) offers much better value. For a HDTV over 65 inch, your only viable option is a rear-projection TV (DLP).
